St. Peter's Church Cemetery
St. Peter's Church cemetery lies on a low hill just south of Tipton Army Airfield on a road called Patterson Trail which circles the airport. It is the site of Ellicott's Chapel (Episcopal) which operated from 1840 - 1868 and then became St. Peter's in 1869 and was used as a military chapel from 1917 to 1919. Although the church itself was burned in 1920 the cemetery continued in use until 1969. St. Peter's Parish became the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Odenton. According to the Cultural Resources Survey by New South Associates (1991) there were at least seven churches in the North Tract but only St. Peter's can definitely be associated with a cemetery. At first glance there might appear to be some spelling errors in some of the transcriptions, however, they are copied from the stones verbatim. For example, Benjamin Welsh is spelled Benjiman on the family monument but it is spelled Benjamin on his headstone. Also, Dorathy (Donaldson) is a unique spelling of Dorothy. There are two W.W.I veterans buried here, brothers Luther and Milton Waters, both buried in 1969, and a bronze marker beside Milton's marker states that Carolyn Waters, presumably his wife, was cremated in 1987. Epitaphs are listed below.
